Updated: Dec 6, 2018

On Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 1:55 p.m., the national wireless public alerting system Alert Ready will issue a test alert across Alberta.

This system allows governments to deliver critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Albertans through compatible cell phones.

Alberta will also test its Alberta Emergency Alert system, which also includes an app, social media, radio and television.

During the test, you may hear the emergency tone and see a message similar to this on your phone:

“Alberta Emergency Alert - Test Alert - The Alberta Emergency Management Agency has issued a Province Wide Test Alert on November 28, 1:55 PM. This is only a TEST. If this had been an actual emergency or threat, you would receive instructions that would assist you to protect you and your family. If you received this message, visit www.albertaemergencyalert.ca/mobile for more information.”

Governments and their partners test alerting systems to ensure the systems will perform as they should during emergencies and to make improvements. Please visit Alberta Emergency Alert or Alert Ready for more information.

As this test will take place during the school day, I encourage you to ensure that your schools are made aware of the alert.

Sincerely,

Curtis Clarke, PhD

Deputy Minister of Education

“Alberta Emergency Alert - Test Alert - The Alberta Emergency Management Agency has issued a Province Wide Test Alert on November 28, 1:55 PM. This is only a TEST. If this had been an actual emergency or threat, you would receive instructions that would assist you to protect you and your family. If you received this message, visit www.albertaemergencyalert.ca/mobile for more information.”

Cordialement,

Curtis Clarke, PhD

Sous-ministre de l’Éducation
